The New Work Wizard is a guided step-by-step tool at /author/wizard that walks you through creating a new creative work on NotaeLibrary. Whether you are publishing a book, starting a serial, releasing an audiobook, or importing an existing title from Amazon KDP, the wizard handles everything in one smooth flow.
The wizard has six steps with a progress bar so you always know where you are — and you can go back to any previous step to make changes before finalising.

📦 KDP Import
Import an existing Amazon book by its ASIN — title, description, and cover pulled automatically.
Before you can use the New Work Wizard, you need:
A Creator or Author role
Reader accounts cannot access the wizard. Apply for the Creator role in your account settings.
At least one Author Profile
The wizard creates a default profile for you automatically if you do not have one, but you can set one up ahead of time under Pen Names.
For KDP imports: your book's ASIN
You can find the ASIN on your book's Amazon product page or in your KDP dashboard.
For uploads: a manuscript file
Supported formats: DOCX, EPUB, TXT, MD, ZIP, PDF. Max file size: 20 MB.
/author/wizard without the Author role, you will be redirected to the Creator application page.There are several ways to reach the New Work Wizard:

The first screen presents you with a grid of work types organised by category. Each type has an icon, name, and description to help you choose.
Book
Long-form written fiction or non-fiction. Supports upload, scratch, and KDP import.
Serial
Episodic content published in instalments. Supports upload and scratch.
Audiobook
Narrated audio. Supports scratch creation with narrator metadata.
Newsletter
Regular written dispatches. Redirects to a separate setup flow.
Image
Standalone visual artwork. Redirects to the media upload flow.
Room Document
A document attached to a Study Room. Redirects to room docs.
Tap or click any work type to select it, then press Next to proceed to the creation method selection.
Once you have chosen your work type, the wizard asks how you would like to create it. There are three active methods and one coming soon:
📤 Upload Manuscript
Import an existing document — EPUB, DOCX, PDF, TXT, MD, or ZIP. The wizard parses your file and auto-detects chapters. Best for books and serials you have already written.
✍️ Start from Scratch
Begin with a blank work. You will enter the title, description, and metadata now, and write the content in the editor later. Best for new projects.
📦 Import from Amazon KDP
Link an existing Amazon book by pasting its ASIN or product URL. The title, description, and cover are pulled from Amazon automatically. Best for authors bringing their catalogue to NotaeLibrary.

Duplicate an existing work as a starting point for a new version or edition.
If you selected Upload Manuscript, the next screen is a drag-and-drop zone where you upload your file.

The Scratch flow is the simplest path — after selecting your work type and the Scratch method, you skip the upload step and go directly to the Metadata form.
This flow is ideal when:
The KDP Import flow lets you bring your existing Amazon-published books into NotaeLibrary with minimal effort.

The Metadata form is where you enter all the information about your work. This is the most detailed step and appears in all three flows.
Author Profile
Choose which author profile (pen name) this work belongs to. The wizard auto-creates a default profile if needed.
Title & Author Name
The work title (required, max 200 chars) and optional custom author name override for collaborations.
Description & Genre
A rich description (min 50 chars) and genre from 14 options including Fantasy, Romance, Sci-Fi, and more.
Cover Image
Upload cover art — recommended size 600×900px. You can also generate AI cover art from the workspace.
Language & Audience
Select the work's language (10 options) and target audience (General, YA, New Adult, Adult, Children).
Copyright Details
Set copyright status (Copyrighted, Public Domain, CC, Unknown), holder name, and year.
Type-specific fields:
Book
ISBN (optional) and page count.
Serial
Update schedule (Weekly/Biweekly/Monthly), target chapter count, and status (Ongoing/Hiatus/Completed).
Audiobook
Narrator name.
You can optionally link your new work to one or more Worlds — structured knowledge bases that contain characters, places, timelines, and lore for your fictional universe.

Skip if not needed
Decide whether your work is Public (visible to everyone in the catalogue and search) or Private / Draft (only visible to you).
🌐 Public
Visible in the NotaeLibrary catalogue, searchable by readers, and indexable by search engines. Counts against your subscription's published works limit.
🔒 Private (Draft)
Only visible to you in your Workspace. Does not count against publishing limits. You can make it public later when ready.
The wizard shows your current subscription plan, how many published works you have, and your plan's maximum. If you have reached your limit, the Public option is disabled and you will see an upgrade link.
The final step shows a read-only summary of everything you have entered. Each section has an Edit button so you can jump back to any step to make changes before finalising.
Method & Type
Shows which creation method and work type you selected.
Work Details
Title, author name, genre, language, description, cover image, and copyright info.
Linked Worlds
Any worlds you linked, or a note that none were linked.
Visibility
Public or Private, with your current publishing quota displayed.
When you are satisfied, click the ✨ Create Work button. The wizard sends all your data to the server, which:
On success, you are redirected to your new work's page at /author/works/your-work-slug?success=created.
Once your work is created, here is what you can do next:
Open the editor
Start writing or editing your chapters in the rich text editor. Add formatting, images, and embedded media.
Adjust settings
Update metadata, change visibility, manage linked worlds, or update your cover image from the work settings.
Add to a Study Room
Shelf your work in one or more Study Rooms so members can discover, discuss, and review it.
Build your world
Use the Worlds feature to create characters, places, and lore connected to your work.
Track analytics
Monitor reads, engagement, and reader demographics from your Author Dashboard.
Your progress is saved automatically
The wizard saves your state to your browser's session storage. If you accidentally navigate away within the wizard, your data is preserved — just do not close the browser tab.
You can always go back
Every step has a Back button. You can also use the Edit buttons on the Review screen to jump directly to any step and fix something before creating.
Cancel at any time
The Cancel button appears on every step. It asks for confirmation, then redirects you to your Works list without saving anything to the server.
Start as Draft, publish later
If you are unsure about making your work public, set it to Private. You can change visibility anytime from the work settings — there is no rush.
Prepare before you start
Having your manuscript file ready, your ASIN handy (for KDP imports), and a clear idea of your genre and description will make the wizard flow much faster.
